Prosecutor Overreach v. Jury Sense
A mentally limited man takes part in a beating wherein his comrades beat a man's head in. The man only kicked the victim in the shoulder once (not causing any major damage).
The prosecutor asked for first-degree murder - the jury returns second-degree murder.
The prosecutor asked for 40 years - the jury returned 10 years.
